Dr. Dean Priest heads up Springwood Behavioral Health’s youth services. He received his medical education at UAMS where he also did his residency in Adult Psychiatry and a Fellowship in Child Psychiatry. Dr. Priest is board certified in Child/Adolescent Psychiatry and General Psychiatry. While Priest has had over a decade of experience meeting the mental health needs of children, adolescents and adults, Dr. Priest finds working with troubled adolescents especially fulfilling.
Though symptoms such as withdrawal from family and friends, rapid mood swings, declining grades, runaway behavior, and alcohol or drug abuse, may be a temporary characteristic of adolescence, these and other symptoms may also indicate a significant emotional problem. Dr. Priest suggests parents who suspect these issues should schedule an assessment. “Our qualified assessment and referral staff are available 24 hours a day and 7 days a week. Each assessment is evaluated by a physician who will recommend the appropriate level of care. And there is no charge for an assessment.”
The Springwoods Adolescent Services’ program allows the teen and his/her family to work through an immediate crisis, stabilize, and then enables the youth to return home with improved ability to express emotions, self-control, and develop positive peer relationships. The treatment is administered by a multi-disciplinary team of mental health professionals led by a psychiatrist. Dr. Priest emphasizes a comprehensive discharge plan that includes appropriate aftercare and a successful transition back to the community.
Dr. Priest exemplifies Springwoods Behavioral Health’s theme of bringing help for today and hope for tomorrow.
